As a one night side trip we got the bus down to Kampot. Well, it was one of their ‘minivan’ buses, which basically means the driver will do the trip in as fast a time as possible. I’d say we spent about 80% of the journey on the wrong side of the road!
Once there we hired bikes and rode down to Kep. Here is where I got my Cambodian tattoo……
A very common injury from a certain bit of leg touching the extremely hot exhaust pipe! Here is the pic of me a nanosecond after doing it:
Ouch!
And the result of said burn!
After searching pharmacies I managed to find some panthenol which I could spray on as a layer of foam. Did the job of stopping the pain anyway.
The area was very pretty, and we took our bikes up a dirt track which got so bumpy and ‘off road’ that we decided we ought to maybe turn back round before we completely did ourselves an injury (I had just five minutes before, somehow, at only 5mph, lost the bike from under me while turning! Idiot!) Luckily no damage 🙂
Laura in her lid
And me in mine!
The countryside and seaside all in one place
Hungry monkeys
Not a bad place to watch the sun set – through the silhouette of palm trees
A local temple monument
A popular mode of transport round here!
A large statue on top of the hill! (Sorry, my lack of description showing up my rubbish memory!)
The ride back down with some great views along the way
Even though a short trip, it was definitely one worth taking.
When we got back to Phnom Penh we took the night bus to Siem Reap.
On a not very ‘VIP’ sleeper bus (the agent’s description!) Although I did quite like the paper trim with horses on it, very plush.
Ok, that’ll be peeing at the side of the road then!
Mine and Laura’s ‘bus faces’
Still, it’s these experiences that make it!
Laura far outdid me and my Cambodian tattoo, she decided to burn herself all over, poor girl was beside herself in pain from the 35 degree sun she’d baked herself in! Ouch! Here she is sprayed in panthenol!
I like the Tattoo…..Ouch, but better than your friends sunburn
LOL at Laura’s tattoo! he he he
Hi Clarabelle, love the Cambodian tattoo, now you know how I felt every time l fell off my bike! us cyclists call it road rash , (ddoesnt stop you getting up and doing it again though). All part of life’s great experiences. Daddykins xxxxx
Your Cambodian tattoo looked very sore indeed!! I have experience the bike sliding out from under you when on very unmade roads in Majorca many moons ago!! Glad you weren’t injured, but what some fantastic memories you will have when you eventually return home xxx
I can’t get over the open truck so crowded with all the people in it exposed to the elements! That picture is proof that you weren’t travelling along the M27!!
Loved the story xx
