I only spent one night in Hue, but it was quite a small city. I hired a motorbike for a day and rode around in the blistering heat, in the hunt for the tombs in the local area, which were more like palaces than what you’d expect of a tomb!
Bike selfie!
I also happened to stumble across this scene in one of the tomb’s gardens….
I heard a strange squeaking noise, and investigated where it was coming from. I saw what I thought was a lizard making the noise, hiding amidst some rocks. I thought how nice this was to get him on video making all this noise….then, a guide with a family came over to see what the noise was, and he said to me ‘it’s a snake’. I said, no it can’t be a snake as it’s got legs. He repeated ‘it’s a snake’, I was thinking it really can’t be as I can see it’s feet! Then he added, ‘it’s a snake, eating a frog!’
So the nice video I thought I had captured turned into a live video of a poor frog in the jaws of a snake, who was consuming him, very slowly indeed. That’s nature for you!
I returned ten minutes later and although it looked like the snake was going to take hours to consume the frog, by now there was no noise so at least the frog didn’t have to experience the slow consumption of himself.
I found this little roadside kitchen which served me up a delicious chicken noodle soup. Although I did remove a rather large lump of squidgy brown stuff which I can only imagine was some kind of boiled animal blood?!
A typical Vietnamese streetside kitchen, kiddie tables and chairs a must!
I was highly unimpressed with The Imperial City in Hue, but felt I ought to go as it’s something everyone does whilst there, so I thought it must be pretty good, but no, wish I had saved the £3 entry fee for a manicure!
The moat was pretty…
And a pretty cool dragon and corridor, but that was about it…
A relatively short post from me! Coming up next, the very pretty town of Hoi An.
The things you see when in Vietnam!!!
Poor frog. Anyway looks like you are still having fun. Look forward to seeing where you go next. Simon
Looking forward to your next blog xx
that snake/frog video is grim 😦
What a way to end your life, being eaten by a snake! You’d never see that in the New Forest…
I know, I did feel sorry for the poor thing 😦
lol at your video!
How’s the food there Clarinda?
The food in Thailand is delicious! Had the best curry of my life in Chiang Mai! Seriously! 🙂
